The relationship between processed meat, red meat, and risk of types of cancer: A Mendelian randomization study

Fondness for processed meats may put an individual at risk of developing lung cancer.

This study looked at the burden of cancer associated with the consumption of a meaty diet. Dietary and health data obtained from individuals who were part of the UK Biobank, Genetic Consortia and the FinnGen Consortium Cohorts were analyzed for this study.

Researchers noted that processed meat eaters exhibited a high probability of having lung cancer. This study documented that increased ingestion of processed meats might be one of the factors that is contributing to the high burden of lung cancer globally.
