Effects of whole grains on glycemic control: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies and randomized controlled trials

Upping the intake of whole grains may knock down type 2 diabetes risk in men and women.

This meta-analysis evaluated the findings of previously published studies that focused on the relationship between frequent ingestion of whole grains and the likelihood of receiving a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Data from 47 studies were considered for this meta-analysis.

Researchers noted that the consumption of 50 grams of whole grains per day decreased type 2 diabetes risk by as much as 24%. This meta-analysis demonstrated that creating more space for whole grains in our diet may improve our chances of avoiding a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
