Espresso coffee consumption and risk of coronary heart disease in a large Italian cohort.

Regular intake of more than 2 cups of coffee per day may heighten the risk of coronary heart disease.

This study assessed whether there is an association between regular drinking of expresso coffee and the likelihood of having coronary heart disease (CHD). Data on the coffee drinking habits and the incidence of coronary heart disease in a study group comprising of more than 40,000 men and women were obtained from validated questionnaires.

Researchers noted that the risk of coronary heart disease increased with the consumption of more than 2 cups of expresso coffee per day. This 2015 study of Italian men and women found a positive association between coffee drinking and coronary heart disease.
